The 2002 Traffic Speeds in English Urban Areas survey is the fourth in an ongoing series of such surveys. It aims to monitor average traffic speeds at different times of day, for the 18 largest urban areas in England (excluding London). Survey cars were driven for a total of almost 12,000 miles around the English urban road network, measuring average traffic speeds and collecting other data. As well as presenting a snapshot view of speeds in 2002, it also provides the opportunity, when compared with the previous three surveys, to examine the change in traffic speeds over time.
