Abstract

Based on the concept of traffic conflicts a simulation model for assessing accident risk at a T-junction is described. It is implemented by an vent-stepping simulation program in which the movements of individual vehicles are monitored. The events and vehicle interactions are defined, and it is shown how drivers' turning decisions lead to the occurrence of conflicts. The project is aimed at improving the allocation of traffic police resources in non-urban situations.
