Abstract

The Transport Research Delegation decided in the spring of 1979 to study the "memory" effect of traffic surveillance on drivers exceeding the speed limit. The memory effect is the effect is the reduction in speeding drivers which can be observed after surveillance has taken place. Four sets of experiments have been conducted. Analysis shows that the effect is statistically significant for at least 10 days for surveillance using radar, helicopter and marked police cars.
