Abstract

The paper describes the design criteria/system architecture and the practical application of the traffic management system at the Stockholm region TMC; Trafik Stockholm. The operator requires support from a system and thesystem needs an operator for important assessments and decisions. All traffic management centers are constantly striving to improve their quality and to become more efficient. Speed is of the essence. The interplay between the system and the operator is vital to success, the operator needs simple and high-quality support at the right time and the system needs decisions and verification from an operator in order to function efficiently. Traffic Stockholm has high level of system integration and decision support. All equipment and information systems are controlled thru an event handling system with only one point of data entry and retrieval. The architectureis based on a layered structure where business logic is kept close to theresponsible actor. The interfaces are unified and a dedicated and secure broadband network using RSVP protocols distributes all video, sound and data packets in IP format.
