A total number of 79 passenger car accidents with petrol fires, from the 1st of January 1969 to the 31st of December 1971, was studied. The main purpose of this investigation was to study the connection between the location of the fuel tank in the car, and the risk of petrol fire. A special study was made for the Volkswagen cars. The accidents were investigated with regard to: type of car, accident type, time of year, severity of injuries and cause of fire. Previous investigation results confirms, that front tank cars are overrepresented in accidents with petrol fires.
