Abstract

Present knowledge of variations in road safety between types and designs of urban junctions is insufficient, not least in the case of pedestrians and cyclists. The aim of this study was to obtain better information, accident prediction models and effects of countermeasures in order to select appropriate road safety actions. This is especially desirable with regard to unprotected road users. The projects also aims at developing PC-based registers for data acquisition, together with simple analysis programmers. The study has been made possible through the support of 35 municipalities who made an inventory of data on junction design, traffic volume (number of motor vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists) and accidents for a sample of junctions.
