Abstract

This report summarises the traffic replanning Programme implemented in Copenhagen, Osterbro. The purpose of the programme has been to evaluate the road safety effect of simple, physical to improve, rood safety. The research project has been evaluated with a before and after study as well as with a before/after study with a control group. In this report the results of the before/after design without any control group are described. Periods covered 3 years. In the before-period the police reported a total of 1175 accidents. The implementation of 17 physical countermeasures reduced the total number of accidents by 62 after changes in traffic flows have been taken into account. The project has illustrated that, of the 17 implemented countermeasure some have proved very effective, while others do not seem to improve road safety.
