Abstract

Computer traffic simulation models are valuable tools for the evaluation of strategies for relieving traffic congestion. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) microscopic traffic simulation models, NETSIM, FRESIM and CORSIM, are regarded as highly comprehensive but somewhat difficult to use. TRAFVU is a recently developed graphics processor for visualizing and analyzing the output of these microscopic models. TRAFVU includes many features such as an animation playback control, direct manipulation interface and the ability to open multiple alternatives for side-by-side comparison. The results of a study evaluating proposed modifications to an interchange using CORSIM and TRAFVU are presented in this paper. (A)
