Abstract

Tlie manher in which observers are trained for conflictstudy work, and the effects of different metrzods oftraining on their assessments of traffic conflict situa-tions are discuseed shortly. The main problem is that ofsubjectivity. No matter how nutually exclusive and well-defined the severity classifications are, th e trafficconflicts technique is baseg on people using their subjec-tive judgement to quantify what is often a complex trafficsituation, and one which is over witpin a very few seconde.
