Abstract

The driver training requirements of Kansas, USA are described. A driving school set up to raise standards and its key requirements (eyesight testing, use of a driving simulator to master the controls, eight hours of classroom tuition including videos, and six hours of driving time) are described. The driving school owner considers this to be inadequate, but students will not pay for any more than the statutory minimum driving practice to obtain a licence. The statutory requirements for driver instruction are considered inadequate in view of accident statistics.
