TramStore 21 is a European cooperation project that aims to improve transport efficiency and the urban integration of tram depots (parking and maintenance infrastructures). Its main areas of study are: the urban integration of depots, technical cooperation between operators and contribution to the public transport community. New tram depots are planned in Brussels, Rotterdam, Blackpool and Dijon and features under investigation include integration with a bus depot or with a car park for park + ride, specific measures to deter rust, sustainable designs, and peer reviews at the planningstage. The project has led to innovative practices such as local authorities working in an open manner in an international setting, accepting peer reviews in the planning process, overcoming language barriers and confidentiality clauses in contracts. In some cases including a peer review is cheaper than hiring in expert consultants.
