Abstract

The purpose of the National State Highway ITS Strategy is to integrate ITS into the goals, objectives and targets of the National State Highway Strategy. It has already implemented a number of ITS projects across the country led mainly by the ATMS projects in Auckland and Wellington. To ensure that Transit develops its ITS projects and initiatives in an effective and cost efficient way it is essential that the various systems are implemented as part of a coordinated strategy, with appropriate consideration of national consistency, future integration opportunities and technological advances. To achieve this Transit has developed a National ITS Strategy for State Highways, setting out the strategic goals, objectives and guiding principles, as well as a process to develop an agreed systems structure [or architecture and set of technical standards.
