This publication reviews the role played by the transportation costs in Finland's exports from the viewpoint of Finland's international competitiveness. Information from import freight statistics has been analysed. As there are no statistics available for the transportation costs for exported goods, data on export transportation was gathered by case study. The calculations show how the transportation costs are distributed among the various links of the transportation chain and compares the transportation costs with the actual value of goods. Some consideration of the importance of export transportation costs to the price competitiveness is given.
