Abstract

The purpose of this study was to collect data on transport demand (passenger x km or tons x km) not available in international transport statistics. Modes considered in the study are: railways not affiliated to UIC, urban rail, powered two wheelers, cycling and walking but also modes often not summed up under "land passenger transport" in statistical reports; waterborne passenger transport and freight transport by non-UIC railways. The study has been conducted by UITP with co-operation of the European Cyclist's' Federation and the Federation of European Pedestrian Associations. The report is organised in three parts: 1. tables and executive summary presenting aggregated results of the research; 2. a technical report presenting the methodology of data collection and estimations; 3. annexes with general data. The report has been completed in 1997. (Author/publisher)
