Abstract

Over 30.000 events have been planned in New South Wales during 1988 as part of the bicentennial celebrations. While many of these are minor in terms of transport planning, there are major days both in Sydney and in country cities where planning for expected crowds will be paramount to ensure safe and smooth operations and also to maintain normal operations on non holiday days. This paper describes the rationale and process of planning for transport arrangements, focussing on the planning for major days in Sydney during January.
