Abstract

This paper considers the efficiency of the European transport system, whether it is necessary or feasible to decouple growth in the transport sector from economic growth, whether transport can enhance the competitiveness of the European economy, whether transport can be used as a means of reducing macroeconomic disparities in Europe, and the feasibility of judicious integration that preserves the diversity of European transport systems.
