Abstract

This section of transport telematics starts with a paper on the role that digital imaging technology will have in the development of intelligent transport systems. Image systems are used for detecting and recording road speed violations in speed cameras. The analogue technology is gradually being replaced with digital imaging. Still digital images of passengers are captured at security desks at UK airports and combined with ticket information for checking those boarding flights. In London, Transport for London is preparing to introduce digital imaging systems in their fixed, video and CCTV cameras. A second short article discusses the role of intelligent transport systems in transport security. A Security Interest Group has been established by the Intelligent Transport Society for the UK.
