This report on transport telematics contains three articles. The first discusses the problems associated with implementing real time passenger information on rural bus routes with reference to social inclusion, safety and modal shift. A case study on the implementation of real time passenger information by Capita Symonds for rural bus routes in Gwynedd and Conwy, Wales is described. The system is based on a Band III trunked radio system and is accessed by users by phone. The second article describes the launch of a new national annual award by ITS (UK) for the person/organisation/product or service that has done most to further the development or deployment of a transport solution or innovation using intelligent transport systems (ITS) in the UK. The final article considers the UK introduction of the concept of ramp metering to reduce access to congested motorways by managing traffic flows.
