Abstract

This paper touches on some of the more important interrelations of important societal issues and transportation and land development. In the past, better mobility through transportation improvement was viewed primarily as a goal or end in itself and was undertaken quite independently of the likely effects on other goals or issues. Many people now feel, however, that other goals are more important than improved mobility and that future transportation development policies must be integrated and coordinated with them.
