Abstract

A research project statement is being drafted on the impact of the Bay Area Rapid Transit system (BART) for the San Francisco metropolitan region. BART is the first totally new rail system whose impacts may be evaluated on the social and economic environment and the ecology of the area through which it passes and the larger region that it influences. Criteria for determining transportation needs are being re-evaluated.
