Abstract

The concern with transportation planning in Brazil came about in the beginning of the nineteenth century, even if in a utopian and not very rational fashion. This paper attempts to delineate the historical evolution of such concern. There is still a great gap as far as the compatibility, systematiza- tion, and complementing of different measures regarding transportation are concerned. Brazil is in need, therefore, of a continuous process of systemic transportation planning.
