Abstract

This paper describes research performed to specify a car bed that will provide, as a mininum, the same level of protection for medically fragile infants as that currently provided for the general population of children. The car bed was designed to comply with the performance evaluation criteria of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 213 (FMVSS 213) - Child Restraint Systems - and will be suitable for use for normal full term, premature, and physically disabled infants.
