Abstract

This paper summarizes highway routing and related requirements affecting the transportation of hazardous materials in the United States. It examines the scope of Federal, State and local requirements, enforcement activities, and the need to reduce redundant requirements. Available data are included on the number of hazardous materials shipments and on crashes involving vehicles transporting hazardous materials. (A)
