Abstract

Longitudinally, nailed-laminated timber bridge decks are used extensively in Northern Canada. Construction of these nailed-laminated systems involves extensive labour. This report describes the application of transvers post-tensioning to an existing timber deck structure in Ontario. Tranverse post-tensioning, in effect, replaces the need for nailing, and hence reduces the labour required for construction.
