Abstract

In order to evaluate accident and casualty rates, the distance travelled by motor vehicles on South African roads during 1973 was estimated. It was found that the total travel during 1973 was 4,5 per cent more than during 1972 and that accident and casualty races continued to show a slight downward trend. Figures are given ion the number of persons killed, the total number of casualties, and the number of road accidents, per millions kilometres of travel, ion the years, 1971, 1972 and 1973.
