The presentation describes development, design and working of the new Internet based "Travel and Transport Information Service" for Northern Europe (in the following abbreviated as TTIS). The TTIS website was developed within the scope of the euro-regional project VIKING in 1999, supported by the EC Directorate General for Transport and Energy. Under the project leadership of the North German partners (main responsible: Bremen), the creation of a common web site for a five country network-wide area was undertaken (Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden and Northern Germany with participating Federal States Bremen, Hamburg, Niedersachsen, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Schleswig-Holstein). Within the completed first phase there is in the forefront the offer of information for cross-border transport on the pre-trip level. The information relates to all modes of transport (road, rail, water and air) and also for every type of user (private, professional and freight). The web site with the URL www.travel-and-transport.com will be improved in the forthcoming phases of the VIKING project.
