Travel demand forecasting : achievements and problems.

Abstract

British and European achievement in travel demand forecasting are recounted. The organizational content is described and trip generation, distribution, model split, generalized cost, assignment, urban activity models, and ongoing issues in research and development are outlined. Differences between American and European practices are noted and a number of theoretical innovations and ways in which models have been used in a planning context are discussed.
