Abstract

The paper outlines the quantitative methods being used to forecast the likely number of visitors to the proposed National Millennium Exhibition, their mode of travel, and the transport capacity and demand management techniques required. The main modes of travel will be London Underground, heavy rail, park-and-ride, special dedicated and local buses, private hire coaches and more passenger services. As a major statement for the Millennium, and in recognition of the congested highway network in inner London, no visitor parking will be provided on site except for orange badge holders. The paper describes the innovative steps being taken to promote travel by public transport to this major and high profile event.
