Abstract

This paper presents the Travel Time Information System that has been implemented as a part of an extensive traffic management system during repair work and widening on one of the most busy Danish motorway stretches. The system is based on automatic vehicle detection. Approximately 2,500 electronic identification tags have been distributed to drivers who use the affected motorway stretch on a daily basis. The tags are read by interrogators placed at eight positions. Travel time measured and expected delay are presented to the operators of the TIC. Information is disseminated to the public by means of VMS, local radio and teletext.
