Abstract

Every year again new information and communication technologies and services concepts related to mobility emerge. These techniques and services on the one hand emerge from research directed to the ITS market, on the other hand, they slide in from adjoining domains. Considering the developments of recent years in the area of ITS one of the most outstanding issues is a major increase in non-acceptance of concepts. It is of great importance for as well as profit as non-profit players in the ITS field to gain insight in the potential of new mobility solutions. In this paper, we present a method to asses mobility solutions against their business and societal value. To enable that, we developed a method to enhance the quality of the predicted future development of concepts. This method is based on experiences with comparable solutions, the place of the solution in the ITS field and the way the solutions is conceived in policy making. Combining the acceptation level, the dome architecture reference frame and policy evaluation techniques into the four-dimensional MSA-space, we are able to do a much better assessment of the potential future value of a mobility solution for business and society.
