This report describes a study into the 'Green Logistics' scenario. This is one of the three working scenarios within the Dutch 'Trend breach scenario' for freight transport. The report makes an inventory of the possibilities to reduce the energy consumption in freight transport through a modification of its logistic organization. The possibilities are examined that are already available now or will be available before the target year 2015. The main conclusions are as follows: (1) The transport organization using heavy and optimal loaded vehicles could reduce substantially the number of trips and kilometres travelled. The results show an energy consumption reduction of up to 25%; (2) A very efficient organization of empty movements could give an energy use reduction of up to 4% of the total energy consumption in transport; and (3) it will be necessary to centralise the information on demand and supply of transport in order to achieve the energy use reduction. This information should be available from all possible locations.
