Abstract

Studies about alcohol consumption in traffic have primarily focused on car drivers. Recent research shows a decrease in alcohol consumption by car drivers in the mideighties, followed by an increase in the early nineties. The extent of alcohol consumption by participants from other types of traffic has not yet been described. In a retrospective study, an analysis was performed on all road victims (N = 45.770), who attended the Trauma Center of the University Hospital of Groningen during the period from 1970 through 1992. The results of this study are given and discussed.
