Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to summarize the adverse effects associated with air pollution and the role played by motor vehicles in causing them. The growing significance of vehicles produced or registered outside of the United States and other OECD countries and the increasing importance of vehicle modes other than passenger cars is also analyzed. Finally, based on a set of assumptions about the development and use of available technological advances and growth constraints, vehicle emissions are projected for the next forty years. (A)
