Tricks of the trade : how to get more capacity at signalized intersections at low cost and without compromising safety.

Many signalized intersections that suffer from peak-period traffic congestion could be operated at greater capacity if some low-cost "tricks of the trade" were applied. This article discusses these methods and what conditions should be present for each to be considered further; details how each can be safely implemented and in conformance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and other standards and guidelines; and provides results from actual installations.
