Abstract

An overview of the truck accident situation is presented, in terms of accident types, causal factors, and accident rates. Differences between trucks and other vehicle classes, and between rigid trucks and articulated trucks, are highlighted. The significance of location factors, road geometry, environmental factors, vehicle factors and driver factors in truck accidents is examined.
