Abstract

This paper describes the installation of a weigh- in- motion system in the city of Edmonton, the first such installation in an urban environment in Canada. The system was intended to provide more accurate traffic input parameters for urban pavement designs, and to show which vehicle types inflict the most severe loadings in the urban setting. Preliminary results indicate differences between highway and urban truck fleet composition that may impact upon urban pavement design.
