Abstract

Because pavement markings, unlike road signs, are applied on location rather than assembled in factories, it is important that up-to-date guidelines be in place for the application of these markings. A new handbook, developed by Texas Transportation Institute researchers and Texas Department of Transportation staff, contains guidelines, procedures and recommendations pertaining to material selection and implementation of pavement markings. The handbook includes specific recommendations regarding rider lane markings and rumble strips.
