Abstract

Railways are a complex system which needs to handle a huge amount of information to work efficiently. Improving information management makes it possible to take better decisions, thus a higher level of performance can be achieved. The paper will show how integration of European railway information systems can be possible, by means of a Reference Technology Platform, which enables new intelligent applications. The Platform was demonstrated in a number of scenarios based on business oriented contexts. Applicationswere based on the same common architecture and showed how real benefits can be achieved. Major project results are being submitted as standardization proposals.
