Abstract

The sources of information available to Australian road planners and builders are traced from the arrival of European settlers in Australia to the present day. The growth in the scientific and technical literature over this period, particularly that produced in Australia, is examined and related to the availability of this information to road builders. Emphasis is placed on the interaction between road development, road related research and training, and local publication of journals, textbooks, standards, reports, bibliographies, indexes, and online databases.
