Abstract

A study of 763 accidents that were reported by the police on the main carriageways of the London-Birmingham Motorway M1 in 1961 and 1962 has shown that in 131- or 17 per cent- of them, loss of control of the vehicle was directly attributable to tyre failure. Of these accidents 112- or nearly 15 cent- were single-vehicle accidents.
