Abstract

The paper presents a general formulation of the tyre mechanics of generating tangential forces in response to the rolling motion of wheels which deviated from pure rolling and the way in which the elastic structural properties may be modelled in that formulation. The other basic property of friction at the contact interface is considered only in a qualitative manner.
