Abstract

The results of 26 full-scale crash tests on steel and aluminium U-posts are described. Tests were conducted using both subcompact and standard vehicle impacts of sign installations containing from one to four posts. It was found that simultaneously impacting more than one steel post or more than three aluminium posts produced conditions that do not satisfy present Federal Highway Administration criteria.
