Abstract

According to accident statistics for Federal Germany there does not appear to be evidence of prescribed drugs having harmful effects on drivers. Separate re search on drivers under the influence of alcohol led to completely different results. The number of per sons who had taken medication within 24 hours of a traffic offence rose between 1960 and 1976 from 10% to 21%. The number of those taking medication was significantly related to age.
