On the one hand the state of the art of functional, technical and organizational conditions and requirements of installation and operation of traffic control centers has to be edited. On the other hand the revised version of MARZ has to take into account that various systems based on different technological basis are in operation since years and these systems have to be updated functionally and technically and enlarged in the future. The following steps have been carried out in the project: analysis of the need for revision and for the integration of new issues ; comparison with existing guidelines ; survey of current traffic control related procedures and methods in all federal states ; combination of results and preparation of a draft version for a reviewing of the federal states ; integration of the review results and creation of a final report. Main characteristics of MARZ 2016 are the revision and state of the art structuring of the internal functional areas including new procedures and technologies and an enlargement of the system context with integration of / connection to external systems.rnThe MARZ 2016 represents a document for setup, enlargement or replacement as well as interacting of traffic control centers and their sub-centers to traffic management systems at federal highways. The document represents the current state of the art and fulfills the requirements of a guideline. For the future continuous revision and update of this guideline are highly recommended. A first step in this updating process the results of the research project FE 03.0542/2015/IRB “Development of reference architecture for the new guidelines for equipment of traffic control centers and their sub-centers (MARZ 2015) with integration of external systems” should be the integrated.
