Seit 12 Jahren findet an Grazer Volksschulen ein Projekt statt, das Kinder der 4. Schulstufe im Rad fahren in der Verkehrsrealität trainiert, um sie praxisnah auf die freiwillige Radfahrprüfung vorzubereiten, die im Rahmen des Verkehrserziehungsunterrichts stattfindet. Dieses Projekt heißt „Radfahrtraining in der Verkehrsrealität“ und wurde im Rahmen meiner verkehrspädagogischen Tätigkeit innerhalb der Forschungsgesellschaft Mobilität 1995 als Pilotprojekt entwickelt und im Jahr 2004 auf alle Grazer Volksschulen ausgedehnt. Die vorliegende Arbeit unternimmt den Versuch, anhand von 10 qualitativen Interviews, die mit DirektorInnen, LehrerInnen und SchülerInnen geführt werden, systematisch darzulegen, wie die derzeitige Radfahrausbildung inhaltlich in der Verkehrerziehung verankert ist und welche Verbesserungsmöglichkeiten für eine moderne und wirksame Verkehrspädagogik notwendig sind. Dazu wird die historische Entwicklung der Verkehrserziehung beschrieben und auf neue Strömungen in der Verkehrspädagogik als Wissenschaftsdisziplin eingegangen, die entwicklungspsychologische Erkenntnisse über kindliches Verkehrsverhalten, Verkehrswissen und altersbedingte Fähigkeiten von Kindern im Straßenverkehr berücksichtigt, um ein wirksames Modell für eine kindgerechte, handlungsorientierte und zeitgemäße Radfahrausbildung vorzulegen. (Author/publisher) English title: Evaluation of the efficiency of a model of innovative traffic education: "Cycle training in real-life traffic situations". A project, which has been in practise for 12 years now in primary schools in Graz, trains 4th grade students in primary schools in cycling in real-life traffic situations and, at the same time, prepares them for the "bicycle exam" which allows children from the age of 10 upwards to ride their bicycles on public roads without being accompanied by an adult. When I was working for Forschungsgesellschaft Mobilität (Austrian Mobility Research), we launched this project ("Cycle training in real-life traffic situations") as a pilot scheme in 1995; in 2004, it was extended to all primary schools in Graz. On the basis of 10 qualitative interviews with headmasters, teachers and students, this thesis attempts to analyse critically how cycle training is anchored in traffic education and discuss in which way it needs to be improved to live up to the demands of modern and effective traffic education. I also focus on the historical development of traffic education and innovative teaching approaches to present a model for modern, action-oriented cycle training which also takes into account recent findings on child developmental psychology, children’s traffic behaviour, their traffic knowledge, skills, and needs.
