Abstract

In the first year of operation of the UCLA Motor Vehicle Safety Project an integrated medical-engineering team has been formed. The contributions made by this group have been classified as Task 1 (the application of a medical engineering team approach to the investigation of motor vehicle injuries): Task II ( the development of a program for training medical - engineering teams) Task III ( theoretical and experimental studies to investigate the causes and consequences of motor vehicle accidents). Thirteen areas of research have been initiated by the engineering and medical faculty to investigate various aspects of motor vehicle accidents, in the performance of Task III. Their technical fields include solid mechanics, fluid dynamics, dynamics, structural mechanics, radiology, surgery, physiology, and pathology.
