This publication presents the recommendations of the "Exits" working group, which was supervised by the Netherlands Centre for Research and Contract Standardization in Civil and Traffic Engineering (CROW). Recommendations are made as regards the application and design of exit constructions in The Netherlands that are plain to both road users and road maintenance authorities. The different situations of exits that appear in practice and the jurisprudence in this respect are discussed. The following situations are considered: a) exits near houses; b) exits near companies; c) exits of car parks; d) exits to connect two public roads; and e) exits outside the built-up area. Recommendations are made for the design of exit constructions applied in the interconnection of streets. Finally, relevant sections of the Dutch law, jurisprudence, the liability of the road maintenance authorities, and some construction forms of entry blocks are discussed.
