Abstract

The paper reviews cycling research in the United Kingdom since the 1984 Velo City Conference. The 1985 National Travel Survey indicates that 13 million bicycles are owned by just over 7 million households. TRRL's research into the risks cyclists face at different types of junctions will show highway authorities how developing from one junction type to another affects cyclists and should help them in their decisions to invest in cycle schemes.
