Abstract

Safety engineers are increasingly recognising the need to develop urban strategies which take account of the interaction between the different parts of the urban network and their functions. This paper describes the need to integrate decision- making processes within the urban area, and suggests that network safety objectives might prove a useful tool by which to move toward more compatible urban policies.
