Abstract

In his work, the author is describing the surface ultrasonic method as well as demonstrating the relationships between the characteristics of the longitudinal propagation of an ultrasonic wave and standard designations of surface qualities. The ultrasonic examination of the surface layer in situ are carried out on an experimental section of Serbska street in Poznan. Each time measurements were made in 54 fields, determining ultrasonic longitudinal wave propagation characteristics in the form of longitudinal ultrasonic wave velocity and wave velocity variability coefficient. From November 1984 till September 1990, the author made the measurements eighteen times. Besides the ultrasonic examinations in the experimental section, the standard measurements of surface qualities are carried out. The meteorological data and the traffic loading of the pavement are also registered. Statistical methods were used to analyze the result of the observations of the changes in surface layer condition.
